Curriculum

FAMAKS British Schools have carefully put in place a curriculum to meet the needs and aspirations of today’s children whilst respecting the needs of children in Nigeria.

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

Our Early Years Curriculum is based on the British Early Years Framework. We place high importance on learning through physical hands-on experiences. Our children are engaged in a wide variety of learning activities from a young age to stimulate their curiosity and creativity.

PRIMARY SECTION

Our Primary section curriculum is based on the British Curriculum (Curriculum of England) enhanced by the very best aspects of Nigerian education. Problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking are at the heart of our Mathematics teaching so our children are well-placed for the challenges of the future. Our English curriculum is based on reading whole novels and taking part in engaging activities to strengthen reading skills and enhance grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.

SECONDARY SECTION

Our secondary curriculum is designed to meet the demands of WAEC, NECO, and IGCSE examinations. We have carefully blended the Nigerian and British curricula to create an outstanding learning programme that places high emphasis on problem-solving, reasoning, and creative thinking as well as ensuring the students take part in activities to gain knowledge and factual retention.

Year 9 students sit for the Cambridge International Examinations ‘CheckPoint’ in English, Mathematics, and Science. This way, we can assess their learning progress. They also write the Nigerian BECE and NECO Examinations.

Our Year 11 students sit for the IGCSE examinations conducted by the Cambridge International Examinations. They write 9 subjects which could include the following: Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Business Studies, Geography, History, Economics, and Accounting.
